Musing: Making an Active Protagonist

When in Rome...

Derrek taught me a great deal of what it takes to be a ‘hero’.

Day 13 NaNoWriMo WC — 37,423 words

One of the difficulties I faced early on while writing TWO DESTROYERS centered on the role Derrek Graymer plays in the story.   It goes without saying that the story wouldn’t exist without him, but when it comes to the play-by-play synopsis he isn’t the most proactive of people.   This realization led to my choice to make TD a multi-perspective novel.

Getting into the final stretch of THE MACRO CORP I think I’ve worked at a different angle with Raymond Teller.   He is an individual actively struggling to control his fate.   Mind you, Ray has a great deal more power at his disposal than Derrek does.  This is also a larger cast than my main project and allows for some really interesting character interactions.

I’m looking forward to getting the chance to share THE MACRO CORP with the world, as it is a project I’ve cooked up for a very long time that never really caught its stride, and I have NaNoWriMo to thank for it.   As ahead of schedule as I am, I’ll be doing a B.O.S.S. this Friday.   I have a few things in mind, but I’m open for suggestions in the comments.
